Tooth love is true love! At Southern Maine Oral Surgery, two of our talented oral surgeons are married to dedicated general dentists. Blog SMOMS sat down with the two pairs of love birds to learn more about being dentists in love!
Dr. Rob Walsh joined SMOMS in the summer of 2022. His wife, Dr. Colleen Ahern, owns Smile Stories in Yarmouth.
Blog SMOMS: How did you two meet?
Dr. Rob Walsh: We met on the first day of dental school. Colleen was wearing a red dress.
Dr. Colleen Ahern: The Dean of the dental school gave a speech and said, “statistically, two of you in this room will get married.” I looked around and thought, “oh no, really?” But then I won the lottery with Rob!
Blog SMOMS: Do you talk about dentistry at home?
Dr. Colleen Ahern: I’m always talking to him about my cases. It’s how I decompress after work.
Dr. Rob Walsh: I try to leave my work at work. I decompress with quiet. And by listening to Colleen talk about her day.
Blog SMOMS: How do you support each other’s careers?
Dr. Colleen Ahern: I think we’re really good at supporting each other. We’re both very goal-oriented and set all of our goals for the year in January. Then we help each other track our habits and reach those goals.
Dr. Rob Walsh: When we were in dental school, we trained for a marathon together. One thing we always said during that time was “slow is still forward.” We still say that today when we talk about reaching our goals. We never actually ran that marathon though; it happened the week we graduated dental school and we were too busy!
Blog SMOMS: Any Valentine’s Day date spots or traditions?
Dr. Rob Walsh: Yes! JP’s Bistro in Falmouth.
Dr. Colleen Ahern: We went there when we first started dating, and it’s still our go-to date spot.
Blog SMOMS: What do you love about each other’s smiles?
Dr. Rob Walsh: I like that Colleen has teeth. I’m kidding! I mean I’m not really kidding, but she has a nice big smile. And she does have nice teeth.
Dr. Colleen Ahern: I hope I can keep them! I love that when Rob truly smiles, it’s in his eyes.
