Tooth love is true love! At Southern Maine Oral Surgery, two of our talented oral surgeons are married to dedicated general dentists. Blog SMOMS sat down with the two pairs of love birds to learn more about being dentists in love.
Dr. Angela Russo joined SMOMS in August 2024. Her husband, Dr. Anthony Russo, owns Make ME Smile in Yarmouth.
Blog SMOMS: How did you two meet?
Dr. Angela Russo: We met in dental school! We were working in the same clinic at NYU.
Dr. Anthony Russo: I was always trying to “supervise” her work. We discovered we were both from Staten Island, and really hit it off.
Blog SMOMS: Do you talk about dentistry at home?
Dr. Anthony Russo: All the time! We’re always bouncing ideas off one another.
Dr. Angela Russo: Our motivations for practicing dentistry are completely aligned. We’re both very patient driven. It’s all about informing our patients, and guiding them, but letting them make the decisions that are best for them.
Blog SMOMS: How do you support each other’s careers?
Dr. Anthony Russo: We encourage the other one to practice the way they want to practice. Since dental school, we’ve always done what’s best for the others’ career. We’ve both compromised along the way, and now we’re here.
Dr. Angela Russo: Anthony sacrificed a lot to support me through residency on my way to become a surgeon. Now I’m in Make ME Smile on my days off, doing whatever I can to support his practice. I was answering phones the other day!
Blog SMOMS: Any Valentine’s Day date spots or traditions?
Dr. Anthony Russo: When we lived in New Jersey, we’d always go to the Crab House.
Dr. Angela Russo: That’s true! Our traditions have grown as we’ve grown though, and now we always try to include our son, Gabe, as well!
Blog SMOMS: What do you love about each other’s smiles?
Dr. Angela Russo: Anthony is really funny and he doesn’t take things too seriously. His smile is always genuine.
Dr. Anthony Russo: When Ange smiles, her whole face lights up.
